Welcome, students and parents, to a new school year at Bethany High School. I am excited about having each of you in class this year. We are going to have a great year studying the great world of science. Mid-Term Exams are Thursday and Friday of this week. Study hard and be ready to show me what you know!!
All of the study guides and review assignments are loaded to the assignments page of the various pages. Feel free to download them and study. Chemistry parents and students. We will have a chemical reactions quiz on Thursday, February 24. The students have been reviewing for this and have been given a summary sheet to look over prior to the quiz. They are going to be allowed to make a 3 x 5 inch notecard to use on their quiz of information on the summary sheet. They can use the front side of the index card only and can only include information that is printed on the summary sheet I gave them in class. Good Luck! Study Hard!
All environmental science students and parents:
Energy PowerPoint projects are due on Friday, February 25. See the homework page for a sheet explaining the assignment. Just wanted to let all the parents out there know that the grading for all classes will slowly be caught up in parent portal. We have only had school for 6 of the last 11 days or so and everything is kind of behind. The grades for things prior to that and since the snow days will appear in the coming days. I was able to get some things graded over the "breaks", but it takes a little time to get things finished, into the gradebook and then into the computer. That time is short since we have been spending class time trying to get caught up.
I think it may be time to build in another snow day or two into the calendar. My wife is also a teacher in another district and they have to make up no time. They have that much built into their schedule. But I would be for another snow day in the yearly calendar...so much for global warming! As an avid snow skier I love a good winter time snow here in Oklahoma, but the last two weeks has been a little too much; even for me. More than anything I am sick of shoveling my driveway of the sometimes 5 foot high drifts that are collected in front of the garage door. It took me about 3 hours to get it entirely shoveled after Winter Storm #1. I vowed that I never wanted to do that again. Then Mother Nature laughed at me and sent Winter Storm #2. Luckily my shoveling time was only about 1/2 of what I spent during Storm #1. Needless to say I am ready for the snow to be out of here.
These two winter storms have now cost us 6 days of school, in addition to the day we lost in January due to ice (kind of!). The calendar should be updated by the end of the day on each of the class pages as we continue to lose class time. We will do our best to get things done in class and stay on the schedule from now on. I finally have got the roller coaster rankings up on that portion of this site. You can see the top 10 roller coasters I have ever been on. My wife and I love traveling and one of the things we always try to do while on vacation is visit theme parks to ride roller coasters. We most recently traveled to San Antonio, TX and visited Six Flags Fiesta Texas and got to ride some great coasters such as Superman: Krypton Coaster, Goliath, and The Rattler. Also in San Antonio is Sea World, boasting to great coasters, The Steel Eel and Great White. Journey to Atlantis is also a very thrilling ride, although not technically a roller coaster. I highly recommend both theme parks to anyone traveling to San Antonio.
Superman: Krypton Coaster took the top spot in my rankings for many reasons. That loop, which you can see in the picture is the largest loop on a roller coaster in the world at 145 feet. Another great factor for this coaster, and the entire theme park in general, is how it is built in an old rock quarry. Superman's lift hill takes you up to the top of the quarry wall before sending you back off the edge and into the 145 foot loop. Another great factor of this coaster is the ride time. It just keeps going and going for over 2 minutes. It is the best coaster I have ever been on, barely though over The Incredible Hulk. Keep watching as I try and get the "Science Movies" page and the "What's Reading" page updated. Welcome to the website. I hope everyone enjoys it and is able to use it for its intended purpose. This site is a great way for students and parents to stay updated on what is going on in class. You can view assignments, the course calendar, and even download notes from class.
Also, you will be able to follow the Bethany Track program and Football program by visiting those pages at the top. Welcome and i hope you enjoy! |
